WHAT IS NORDIC WALKING?

Nordic Walking is an enhancement of ordinary walking: it makes something we can all do... twice as effective!!
Nordic Walking uses poles in order to add two major benefits to walking:

•The use of poles means the upper body muscles are used as well as the legs
•The poles help to propel the walker along - this means he/she works harder than usual yet the support given by the poles makes it feel easier!

Nordic Walking is a specific fitness technique and is not to be confused with trekking, hill walking or trail running as the poles are not planted in front of the walker/runner but in a specific way that increases the use of the upper body. It can be done by anybody, anywhere and does not require expensive equipment or clothing.

Nordic Walking is the fastest growing fitness activity in the world and is used by individuals, personal trainers, health clubs, physiotherapists, doctors and health promoters because it is highly effective, affordable and FUN!

Nordic Walking technique MUST be learnt correctly if the participant is to get the most out of the activity - the full Health technique that ensures the whole body works efficiently is only taught by qualified Nordic Walking UK Instructors.


ABOUT ME

To get the results you want, Beatrice, at STARFIT Fitness and Personal Training, offers Nordic walking TASTER SESSIONS, 'Learn to Nordic walk' COURSES (to learn the basic and/or advanced skills) and 'regular' CLASSES for all abilities.
I want to ensure that all participants work at the level that's right for them to get results. My mission is that everyone should work harder than they would on their own, at least -depending on your chosen level- be slightly (yet manageably) breathless at some stage of the class AND should finish the class with more energy than they started!

You will also benefit from my other skills, knowledge and experience as a qualified level 3 Personal Trainer (since 2007), former national level runner and professionally trained mountain biking instructor (which taught me about orientation, map reading and the natural environment). TASTER SESSIONS

Come and try Nordic walking for yourself and feel the benefits. The taster sessions are 45 minutes long and cost only £5. You will feel your whole body work, from your legs to your stomach, arms and shoulders. But don't worry if you know you need to build your fitness (that's what Nordic walking is for!); the sessions are tailored so that everyone can feel the advantages without over-exertion.

LEARN TO NORDIC WALK COURSE

As a qualified Nordic Walking U.K. instructor, STARFIT Fitness and Personal Training has devised a unique learning program of one or two (depending on how fast you learn) 1 hour and 30 minutes sessions that will help you master the basic and/or more advanced techniques, depending on the class you chose.

As your local Nordic Walking U.K. Instructor I will help you to not only learn the technique but to understand which muscles are working and what's going on inside your body! The course will ensure that you understand your current level of fitness and empower you to go out and get the results that you want from Nordic Walking.

Using Nordic Walking poles can help you to work as hard as if you were on a cross trainer machine in the gym - the secret is to learn how to adjust the workload in order to make sure that you are burning calories, toning the right areas and continuing to build your fitness levels. That is what you will learn on the STARFIT Fitness and Personal Training 'Learn to Nordic walk' course.

Once you have completed successfully the course you will RECEIVE A STARFIT Fitness and Personal Training COMPETENCE CARD and you will then be able to competently Nordic walk on your own or join some of the other group walks all over the U.K.

Usually the first 'Learn to Nordic walk course' should give you enough time to master the basic and/or advanced techniques but in case the instructor feels that you haven't reached the required level of competency to join her regular classes, you will be able to do the course again to practice more so that you will be able to catch up easily with the regular classes. Do not worry, as I said, the basic required level of success is quite easy and achievable the first time!


REGULAR NORDIC WALKING CLASSES

You can choose one according to your fitness level and personal preferences: either one for 'Beginner/Intermediate level' or one of 'Intermediate/Advanced level'.

Make sure you ALWAYS PRE-BOOK at least 2 days in advance by contacting me TO RECEIVE A BOOKING CONFIRMATION to avoid disappointment (the class may be full or cancelled because of bad weather, etc). Come and join us to try it out for yourself!
