Hi, I'm Emma! I'm a qualified Nordic Walking and Fitness Instructor and I run the Chorley Nordic Walking Group where we get together for Weekly Group Walks and Nordic Treks.

All you have to do to join is have a Tuition Session in the Basic Technique - see below for details!


I am also an Artist and qualified Tai Chi Movements for Wellbeing Instructor (see www.tmwtraining.com and www.emmanissenharrison.co.uk for details)

I teach Nordic Walking at all levels, from low level exercise to improve health up to higher level exercise for improving fitness.

Across all levels Nordic Walking is
kind to knees and joints because it's low impact, yet it also has fantastic cardiovascular benefits keeping heart and lungs healthy! It improves posture and can help with neck/shoulder/back conditions as well as being highly effective at calorie burning and toning and strengthening all the major muscle groups. Because Nordic Walking combines whole body exercise with the outdoors it can also reduce stress and improve sleep. But BEST of all - Nordic Walking is FUN, EASY and fits in with YOUR life!

Tuition

The different levels of Nordic Walking mean you can find a level that is right for you!

Tuition sessions are arranged at your convenience with a choice of locations in the local area

Tuition Session: Level 1 Basic technique
You will learn:
•Level 1 Basic Nordic Walking technique: a gentle range of movements which mobilises the whole body. The most important stage of learning Nordic Walking, setting a good foundation for all progressive Nordic Walking techniques.
•How to apply this technique to different environments and terrain.
•Features of Nordic Walking poles and how to set them up for use.


Technique Enhancer: Level 2 Progressive technique
You will learn:
•Level 2 Progressive technique: a range of movements which engages 90% of skeletal muscles (more major muscles than running, cycling or swimming!), facilitates increased calorie burn (up to 46% more than normal walking!), tones muscles and improves cardiovascular fitness.

Technique Enhancer: Level 3 Sports conditioning
Includes over the phone fitness consultation
You will learn:
•Level 3 Sports conditioning technique: a challenging and highly effective method of cross training which improves cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and muscle endurance, using Level 2 Progressive Technique, Nordic bounding and jumping techniques and Nordic Running.

Poles are provided, places must be booked, please come in trainers or walking shoes

Learning the Nordic Walking Technique

The Basic Level 1 Tuition Session is a stand alone session that can be completed without any previous Nordic Walking experience. This will give you the foundation to Nordic Walk at the Basic Level and enable you to go out on your own or join us on the Group Walks.

To enhance your technique to a
Level 2 standard learning the Progressive Technique (associated with improving fitness and weight loss) a minimum of 4 Group Walks or 1 x One Hour Tuition Session is required after you have done your Basic Level 1 Session. This is generally the amount of learning time required to establish a good enough standard of the basic technique to progress.

To complete a
Level 3 Technique Enhancer Session learning the Advanced Sports Conditioning Techniques a minimum of 16 weeks Fitness Walks or 3 x One Hour Tuition Sessions are needed. This reflects the high standard of fitness and technical ability required to learn and maintain the Level 3 standard.
The techniques and training concepts taught in a Level 3 Technique Enhancer are tailored to provide the participant with the knowledge and ability to design and maintain a varied and effective solo training regime - ideal for someone training for a sporting event.

Level 3 Technique Enhancer Session Price (2 hour session and consultation)

1:1 - £70
2:1 - £50 per person
3:1 - £40 per person
Group of 4 – 6 - £30 per person

Group Walks

Tuesdays Fitness Walk
(attending this walk at a Level 2 Progressive Technique standard is highly advised to get the most enjoyment and benefit)

A fast paced guided walk, covering varied terrain, with tuition to ensure good technique is maintained. Fun resistance toning exercises are offered to help strengthen muscles and bones and Tai Chi Movements are offered as a cool down.


7:00 - 8:15pm at Cuerden Valley, meet at ASDA Car Park (Spring/Summer) and Buckshaw Village, Chorley (Autumn/Winter)

and

Thursdays Wellbeing Walk

(minimum Level 1 technique required)

A guided walk with tuition to ensure good technique is maintained, for those who want low level exercise in beautiful surroundings to improve or maintain health and wellbeing. Tai Chi Movements are offered as a cool down.


7:00 - 8:15pm at Cuerden Valley, meet at ASDA Car Park (Spring/Summer only)

£5 with own poles, £6 with pole hire



Nordic Treks

Nordic Trek at Rivington: I am very pleased that the first Nordic Trek of the season at Rivington went extremely well and we had a fantastic day! The weather was glorious and made the walking and the views at the Pike even more special. Thank you to everyone who attended. I am planning another trek very soon so please watch this space!


'Race for Life'

To support Cancer Research UK this year Ellsie McCourt and myself Nordic Walked the ‘Race for Life’ at Haigh Hall, Wigan, on 12th June, and raised a fantastic £300 in sponsorship!

I would like to thank Ellsie for her participation in the event. Ellsie is a regular on the Wellbeing walks and loves the benefits Nordic Walking give her. She is a valued member of the group and and at 79 she is an inspiration!
