Why Nordic Walking?
Well, if you are overweight or out of shape, ordinary walking is great for gradually rebuilding your fitness level, but you may quickly reach a plateau: you may get to the stage where you're striding as far and as fast as you comfortably can yet failing to see further benefits. You can maintain fitness, but you can’t improve. You could, of course, progress on to a running or jogging programme but that's not for everyone. Nordic Walking is a fantastic way to 'turbocharge' your walking - when Nordic Walking you use your legs, your arms, your shoulders, your tummy and your chest and back muscles. So many more muscles are involved! This means you can burn up to 450 calories per hour, much more than normal walking, which only burns approximately 280. In fact when I first had a go I was amazed at how much I could eat with no detrimental effects!
Many doctors now agree that Nordic walking is one of the most effective cardiovascular workouts because it works all major muscle groups in the body.
The question is not "Why would you want to have a go?" but "Why wouldn't you?!"
